Clove Lakes Park
03/27/2008 - By Charles Di Bartolo
Clove Lakes Park
A protected Forever Wild site because of its valuable ecological assets, Clove Lakes Park has a rich natural history and a few remnants of the past that remain and continue to thrill visitors.
Slosson Avenue, Victory Boulevard, Clove Road
Staten Island
When I was a child living in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn I thought Clove Lakes Park was the country. This park is a Forever Wild site and hopefully kids will feel the same way today when they visit it. I held a lot of magic for me in my formative years. If you're new to Staten Island or a native here, this is a great place to visit. The park has some beautiful lakes and ponds that are fun too sit by and enjoy the serenity. In my younger years we used to take our bicycles up and down the trails and around the ponds. Today because of the volume in the park bicycles are prohibited. The restriction of bicycles makes it a wonderful place to take a hike up and down the hills and all around the park.
Clove Lakes still has rowboat rentals, which makes it a great place for romance or some casual fun. It's vast expanse stretches from Victory Blvd to Forest ave. This park is almost 200 acres, boasting baseball fields playgrounds, soccer, basketball, football and an ice skating rink. There are so many areas that are perfect for spreading out a blanket and having a picnic.
This park is a great place for bird watchers. Alot of people come to fish, but I would make sure I had a permit and check with the parks department to make sure it's OK.
