Can Blueberries Help Improve your Memory?

Can Blueberries Help Improve Your Memory?
A research team with the Peninsula Medical School in England and The University of Reading found that phytochemical-rich foods, like blueberries have been effective at reversing age related memory issues. In the study conducted these institutions supplemented an ordinary diet with blueberries during a 3 month period.
Studies found that there were improvements within three weeks of supplementation. These improvements continued throughout the supplementation program. Blueberries are considered on of the super foods for many reasons, but what seems to lend effectiveness to this study is blueberries richness in flavanols and anthocyanins.
Blueberries themselves are not a cure-all, they contain a number of substances which are thought to have health benefits. These substances include fructose, vitamins, fiber and antioxidants. It seems that Antioxidants until this study, seemed to have the most conclusive role in the prevention/ delaying of such diseases as cancer, heart disease and the aging process. however this latest study shows that the flavanols and anthocyanins may have an affect on memory and learning improvements.
We don't know precisely why these plant derived molecules affect the brain, but research shows that after consuming blueberries these molecules cross the blood brain barrier and enhance and improve existing neuro connections. Blueberries are shown to enhance short and long term memory and learning functions.
Try adding blueberries to your cereal, or eat them as a snack any time. If you find yourself forgetting to eat blueberries maybe your memory is failing because you haven’t eaten enough of them.
